What if your child could conquer English Literature, gain confidence, and ace exams—all without burning out or breaking your budget? If you’re a parent of a Secondary 1 or 2 student in Singapore who feels lost, stressed, or overwhelmed by English Literature, you're in the right place.
As a parent of a Sec. 1 or 2 student struggling with English Literature, you’re not alone. You want to support your child, BUT IT'S SO HARD because....
You have no idea how to help your child in English Literature—it wasn’t your strength when you were in school.
Your child's schedule is too packed to add another tuition class— plus usual tuition is too $$$. Even group tuition starts from $360/month!!
You cannot find any model essays or practice questions for your child’s set text. Even if you find something online, it's not designed for the MOE Singapore syllabus.
Finding MOE-aligned practice questions, set text resources, or model essays is nearly impossible.
Your child’s school teachers provide minimal feedback or guidance in school. Your child feels unsupported and lost, leaving them lost and unsure of how to improve.
Private tutors are expensive and often don’t have MOE training or familiarity with the syllabus.
🔹 Feeling like analysing their set text is now SO effortless. No more staring at a blank page, wondering where to start. They finally have structured frameworks that guide them through character analysis, themes, and literary devices—so their essays actually make sense and stand out.
🔹 Having easy access to Unseen Poetry practice question videos before their next test—so they'll stop saying that they CAN’T study for Poetry Text! Now, they know exactly what to look for in a poem and how to break it down with confidence.
🔹 Not blindly second-guessing what the essay question demands of them. Instead, they have step-by-step breakdowns of common Lit question types, so they can immediately spot exactly what the examiner is asking for and answer with precision.
I don’t believe in just giving students notes and answers—I teach them exactly how to think, structure, and write like top-scoring Literature students.
❌ “I don’t understand the poem, so how do I even start writing my analysis?”
❌ "I got a poor score because the poem was too difficult. My marks are dependent on how hard the paper was. I cannot control this..."
✅ Learn my step-by-step annotation & analysis framework, giving your child a structured way to tackle poetry—even if they don’t understand every line.
❌ "My teacher keeps saying ‘Elaborate more!’ but I don’t know what to write.”
❌ "My child's essays are filled with feedback that it's too narrative + lacks literary analysis. But what should she do?"
✅ My proven method that teaches students how not to get marked down for being too narrative. Students often copy + paste lines and lines of quotes; that is a bad habit that needs to change, and I'll show them how to integrate + analyse quotes effectively.
❌ “My characterisation essay sounds like what everyone else is writing. How do I stand out?”
❌ "My teacher said that my analysis of the character's relationships are too shallow. But what do I even write?"
✅ A psychology-based framework that teaches students how to analyse characters at a much deeper level so their essays stand out in a sea of generic responses. This is SO useful even at Upper Sec. level!
❌ “How do I even study for Lit? Do I just memorise themes and character traits?”
❌ "I don't know how to revise for Lit. I think I'll just read the novel again."
✅ My structured revision method ensures students focus on what actually helps them score—saving them time and effort. Tried + Tested with my former "O" level graduates!

If you registered by mistake (e.g. your child is not studying the set texts that is included in the programme), or if you feel that this programme is not beneficial for your child (i.e. after your child read my resources), I will provide you a full refund within 7 days after the month's program has started.
I am not able to offer this at the moment, but my students in my group programmes do have close access to me as they whatsapp me questions on any doubts that they have.
Due to the nature of the Lit Unlocked programme, I'm not able to include other texts yet (otherwise my time will be too stretched). I do have self-study resources for other texts such as The Giver and Wonder. If you're keen on those, please click the hyperlinks to learn more.
On a separate note, your child can join to work on their Unseen Poetry skills and to build up their Lit analysis and answering skills. Since Unseen Poetry normally forms 50% of the End-of-Year exam, the lesson and poetry assignment will still be relevant for them.
At the core of English Literature for Lower Secondary school, key literary topics and skills overlap, regardless of whether your child is in the O-level or IP or IB programme (e.g. poetic devices, literary elements such as characterisation and plot, or devices such as irony, foreshadowing etc).
The difference is in assessment. Every school structures their Lower Secondary Lit assessment questions slightly differently -- some challenge their students by requiring them to write 25m essays similar to that of Upper Secondary level, while others break up the essay question to a few shorter questions --> i.e. dividing it to more manageable questions that range from 4m to 8m each, with fixed answer schemes.
My programme covers a range and helps solidify your child's literary foundations, so that they are well able to tackle the questions in their final exam.
At the moment, I'm afraid I don't have the bandwidth for this.
All 'live' lessons will be recorded, so not to worry! They can replay the recording whenever :)
Each month, I will provide a range of assessment questions, so that your child is familiar with all types of questions and understands the expectations of them all. Occasionally, I will also provide students with unique practices, including learning how to grade sample paragraphs -- this is very useful in helping them understand the marking format and what's lacking in their own answers.
"Thank you for all the work you've done here. I think you've really left a legacy behind you -- both in English & Lit & in Student Leadership. I'll miss having you around -- my Lit expert..."
"...I do see improvement after she attended your class. Overall was pulled down cos precious WA1 and 2 [she] was not with you yet. Thanks so much for your help. I'm not able to help her at all for literature."
"...I cannot express my gratitude more to have such an amazing and interesting teacher that constantly ignites my love for literature. [You] treat it like a life learning process rather than just a subject..."
"Thank you for making Literature alive. I really enjoy your Literature classes a lot."
You're not alone—many parents ask:
🙃 “Do I really need to spend hundreds every month on Literature tuition?”
🙃 “Is there even a proven way to improve that won’t add more stress—or break the bank?”
Here’s the truth:
💛 You don’t need another expensive, time-consuming weekly class.
💛 Your child doesn’t have to struggle through Literature alone.
💛 And you don’t need to feel helpless about how to support them.
What your child does need is:
✔️ Structured guidance aligned with the MOE syllabus
✔️ Bite-sized lessons they can access anytime—even during exam crunch
✔️ Smart, practical exam strategies that actually work
You’ve come this far to find the right support. Let’s take the next step together.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Hi, I’m Cheryl :)
When I first started teaching as a MOE Lit teacher, I was handed an O-Level class just months before their national exams. It was overwhelming—for them and for me.
My students were trying hard but still struggling. Their essays were marked “Vague” or “Lacks analysis,” but no one had ever shown them what that actually meant.
So I made it my mission to demystify English Literature.
I pored over examiner reports and rubrics, broke down what top answers did differently, and built clear, repeatable frameworks to help students write better—faster.
Later, I became a MOE Subject Head for Literature, guiding new teachers, building school curriculum, and seeing my ex-students thrive in journalism and creative writing.
Now, as a mum of two, I see things differently. I don’t just think about what works in a classroom—I care about what truly helps kids learn, without burning them out.
Because here’s what I believe:
💫 Your child doesn’t need more + more tuition.
💫 They need smart, structured strategies that demystify what the examiner wants.
💫 Literature is not hard to score in—when they know how to think critically and write clearly.
SLSL exists to help students succeed in Literature—without overloading them.
Because learning should feel like “Aha!” not “Urgh.”
Studying any of these 2 texts (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas / Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed) but unclear on what an A-grade essay looks like? Happy to share these with you. 😉
